Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals clashed against each other in the 3rd match of the SA20 League at St George's Park. Anrich Nortje bowled a 151kph wobbly seam thunderbolt of a length delivery that hit the top of the off-stump. Tristan Stubbs was looking to target legside, with a slog, but got defeated by the pace on the delivery, he missed the line and the off-pole took the beating. The bails went flying, and that was just the wicket the Capitals needed.

Earlier on the previous ball, Stubbs smashed a four, a full-length delivery angled in on the pads. He held his shape and whip-flicked it behind the square on the leg side. But on the very next ball, Nortje bowled him and had the last laugh.

Talking about the match, Sunrisers Eastern Cape won the toss and opted to bowl. Their decision proved right as they dismissed Pretoria’s first five batters on the score of just 85 runs. However, Phil Salt held one end and despite the fall of wickets and a couple of weather interruption breaks, he kept the scorecard ticking with occasional boundaries.

A brilliant cameo from the skipper Wayne Parnell

He got good support from Neesham and stitched a 77-run stand for the 6th wicket and just when the Eastern Cape looked to have gained some control with the ball, Parnell walked in and blitzed a cameo that could very well come back to haunt the home team. That 9-ball 29 cameo from skipper Parnell proved very crucial. Thanks to his contribution, the last 4 overs went for 55 runs.

Chasing the target, Sunrisers didn’t start well as they lost their first three wickets on the score of just 34 runs. They were 36/3 at the end of 8 overs chasing 194. The required rate was always gonna be a tough ask with such an approach. Just like Salt, JJ Smuts also kept the one end safe but he didn’t get any support from the other batters.

The cameos from Stubbs, Tom Abell, and James Fuller weren't good enough as they left too much to do in the back half of the innings. Resultingly, Sunrisers lost the match by 23 runs. Nortje was the best performer with the ball for the Capitals as he picked up 2 wickets while conceding only 18 runs in his 4 overs quota.
