Watch: David Wiese's bags a five-wicket haul in ILT20, helps Gulf Giants to secure the top spot

Sharjah Warriors clashed against Gulf Giants clashed against each other in the 30^th match of the International League T20 (ILT20), 2023 on Monday, February 6. The Giants are already qualified for the playoffs while the Warriors were in the fifth spot on the points table before the final league match.

During the first inning of the match, Gulf’s allrounder David Wiese performed really well with the ball and clinched a well-deserved five-wicket haul that included a three-wicket over as well. He conceded only 20 runs in his 4 overs quota. Wiese cleared up the entire middle order of the Warriors.

Talking about the match, the Giants won the toss and opted to bowl first, Sharjah’s bowlers started really well as they got the first wicket on the score of just 14 runs in the 4^th over. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz departed after scoring just 7 runs off 9 balls. Tom Kohler-Cadmore was batting pretty well but got out in the 5^th over after scoring 33 runs off 19 deliveries which included 6 fours and 1 six.

For me, it is just about keeping it simple: David Wiese

It was a dismal batting show by the Warriors in a must-win game as their middle order was blown away by the brilliance of Wiese. Skipper Moeen Ali couldn’t provide anything to the scoreboard as he got out after scoring just 1 run. The giants restricted the Warriors to the score of just 107 runs. Apart from Wiese, Carlos Brathwaite picked up 2 wickets in the 3.3 overs he bowled.

Chasing the target, the Giants also started badly as they lost their opener Tom Banton on the score of 32 runs. However, skipper James Vince and Colin de Grandhomme took things into their hands and stitched a brilliant 50-run stand which sealed the victory for their team. Grandhomme smacked 35 runs off 28 balls and Vince scored 27 runs off 31 deliveries. In the end, the Giants won the match by 7 wickets. Wiese talked about his bowling in the post-match presentation.

“Just one of those things, it just works out for you on that day. Just kept it simple and everything worked out. If you get too excited by the conditions, it may not work out. For me, it is just about keeping it simple and it was my day today. Nice to take some momentum into the playoffs. Good to get over the line tonight.” Wiese said.
