Sanju Samson was fully backed by the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma before the start of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He asserted that Samson’s batting will be a plus for us in Australian conditions. But he did not get an opportunity after the completion of the Indian T20 League 2022. A week after India’s exit from the 20-20 World Cup 2022, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has taken it to Twitter and he criticized the Indian management for keeping young talent like Sanju Samson on the bench.

After India’s loss in the semi-final against England in the 20-20 World Cup, Shastri had a conversation with former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan, ex-chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth on the Star Sports network. Shastri opined that it is time India gave Samson an array of opportunities, urging the management to back him for 10 straight matches and then take a call.

"Look for other youngsters like Sanju Samson...do na chance. 10 match do usko. Aisa nehi ki do match khelaya and phir nikala. Baithao dusre logon ko. Do 10 match. Phir dekhna 10 match ke baad, decide karo ki aur opportunty dena hai ki nehi (Give him a chance. Give him 10 matches. Not like you play him in two games and then drop him. Drop the others, give him 10 matches and then take a call whether to give him moe opportunities or not)," Ravi Shastri said.

Will Samson get a chance to play in the T20I series against New Zealand

Samson was picked neither for Asia Cup nor the 20-20 World Cup, but he has been included in the T20I series against New Zealand. The first T20I between both teams was washed out due to rain in Wellington.

The second T20I between India and New Zealand was played today at Bay Oval and was won by Men in Blue by 65 runs with the help of Suryakumar Yadav’s marvelous century. He scored an unbeaten knock of 111 runs in just 51 balls with 11 fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of above 217.
