On Tuesday, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was detained outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in connection with a corruption case. According to local sources, Rangers, a paramilitary federal law enforcement corps, apprehended the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman.

Khan was due to appear before the Islamabad High Court in a mutiny case and another involving attempted murder charges. According to a Reuters report citing an eyewitness, as soon as Khan reached the IHC gate, paramilitary men and armoured personnel carriers followed him. The armoured trucks blocked the gate while Khan was rushed away under strong protection.

PTI leader Hammad Azhar claimed Imran's arrest was "not acceptable" and that the PTI leader "is our red line." He urged the country to come to the streets in protest of Imran's arrest. The former premier's imprisonment comes after many failed attempts to apprehend him, including a police raid on his home in Lahore's Zaman Park. Section 144 has been imposed in the national capital, according to Islamabad police.

The entire nation is extremely concerned over Imran Khan’s well-being: Shah Mahmood Qureshi

PTI vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has vowed to undertake a political and legal battle for the "safe recovery" and "release" of the party's leader. He "strongly condemned" Imran's arrest in a statement, calling it unjustified and unacceptable.

Qureshi stated that before leaving for the IHC, Imran stated that he was willing to be arrested.“But storming the high court and disrespecting lawyers is fascist and condemnable,” he said.

He further demanded that the IHC CJ take urgent notice of the arrest and issue Imran's release orders. “The entire nation is extremely concerned over Imran Khan’s well-being,” Qureshi said, adding that the PTI would hold peaceful protests against this move across the country today. He added that a meeting of the party’s central leadership, which was established by Imran previously, is being held. “We will soon announce a comprehensive plan of action.”
