India took on Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the second ODI of their three-match series on Thursday, January 12. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. They made two changes to the side that took to the field in the previous ODI, with the injured Pathum Nissanka and Dilshan Madushanka replaced by debutant Nuwanidu Fernando and Lahiru Kumara respectively. India also had an injury-enforced change to make to their side, with Kuldeep Yadav replacing Yuzvendra Chahal in the side.

Sri Lanka got off to a swift start, not allowing the Indian bowlers to settle into a rhythm as they looked to play attacking shots from the start. They raced to 100 as early as in the 17th over with the loss of just one wicket and looked set to post a sizeable total. However, the introduction of spin into the bowling attack soon sent the innings into disarray as Sri Lanka lost five wickets for 24 runs in the space of seven overs and, thereby, collapsed to 126/6 at the halfway stage.

In the midst of all that, Hardik Pandya was caught on the mic expressing his displeasure with certain members of the team present in the dugout. In an angry outburst that was picked up on the microphone, Pandya was heard abusing at the team members for not sending out water.

In the video captured by a Twitter user, Pandya can be heard shouting, “Paani maanga tha last over, g@#@d m@#a rahe ho udhar,”.

A great recovery from the lower-order batters pushed the Lankans to a fairly respectable total as they ended up getting bowled out for 215 in the 40th over. Mohammad Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav picked up three wickets apiece, with Umran Malik taking two and Axar Patel getting one. For Sri Lanka, the debutant Nuwanidu Fernando stood out with a well-crafted half-century, with Kusal Mandis and Dunith Wellalage chipped in with 34 and 32 respectively.
