India has lost another world tournament knockout as they lost the World Test Championship final against Australia on June 11. Batting first, the Kangaroos amassed 469, thanks to Steve Smith and Travis Head's hundred. In reply, the Asian side was reduced to 152/6 but reached 296 thanks to fifties from Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur. With a lead of 178, the Aussies reached 270/8, asking India to chase 444 runs.
In the second innings, India started well but with the batters throwing away their starts, they were bowled out for 234, losing the game by 209 runs. After the game, the fans once again lashed out at the team. On the other hand, former India opening batter, Gautam Gambhir has raised questions on hero-worshipping in Indian cricket. The two-time World Cup winner for India mentioned that most of the fans don't remember much about Mohinder Amarnath, who was the player of the match in 1983 World Cup semis and finals.
