WATCH: Jos Butler's peculiar LBW review in 1st T20I against New Zealand

In the history of the game there have been several decisions which have turned out to be controversial as well as at times funny. A similar incident took place in the first T20I match between England and New Zealand on August 30. When the ball struck Glenn Phillips' bat in the center, the home team conducted an odd review. Jos Buttler, the captain and wicketkeeper, appealed to the umpire, but Liam Livingstone, the bowler, didn't seem too interested. However, the DRS revealed that the ball hit the bat and was far from the pads as the wicket keeper batter continued to review.

The DRS appeal gained popularity online as a result of people laughing it off and dismissing it as an English joke. The home team may have been attempting to capitalize more on the fact that New Zealand was six wickets down, but things ultimately turned out against them. In the meanwhile, England chose to field first after winning the toss and starting the game.

Let’s have a look at the DRS incident video:

The only batter to continue after a strong start was Phillips, which hindered New Zealand's ability to get underway. The Black Caps scored 139 runs in the opening innings, but only five of their batters reached double digits. Phillips scored 41 runs off of 38 balls, and Luke Wood and Brydon Carse each took three Three Lions wickets.

In reply England, Will Jacks made a strong start but was unable to turn it into a significant score. He scored 22 runs off 12 pitches, and Dawid Malan and Harry Brook took over after he went back to the pavilion. Malan scored 54 runs off of 42 pitches while Brook scored 43* runs off of 27 pitches while batting at position three. In just 14 overs, the home team completed the entire chase.

It's interesting to note that Tim Southee took one wicket during the game, which made him the top wicket-taker in T20I cricket. He is currently in charge of the squad in England in the absence of captain Kane Williamson and will try to get the team back on track in the series' last three games.
