New Zealand took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series against Bangladesh with a comprehensive 86-run win in the second ODI at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Despite some individual brilliance from the Black Caps, it was a heartwarming gesture from Bangladesh that caught the eye on Saturday, September 23.

A controversial incident took place in the 46th over of New Zealand's batting innings when Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmood ran out Ish Sodhi at the non-striker's end. The third umpire checked the replays and gave the verdict 'OUT'. Sodhi started walking off the field, but New Zealand were unhappy with the ruling.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Bangladesh skipper Litton Das had a conversation with the on-field umpire and decided to call the Kiwi tail-ender back to the crease. Upon his return with full smiles, Sodhi and Mahmud shared a hug for the remarkable display of sportsmanship which was widely appreciated on social media platforms.

Talking about the match, New Zealand opted to bat first and were bowled out for 245 in 49.2 overs. Their top-order failed to fire, but middle-order batters Henry Nicholls (49 off 61) and Tom Blundell (68 off 66) steadied the ship. A handy contribution from their tail-enders including Ish Sodhi (35 off 39 balls) helped them to reach a respectable score.

In reply, Bangladesh was bundled out for 168 in 41.1 overs as they failed to find any resistance against Sodhi's spin magic. The visitors' top spinner took six wickets conceding 39 runs in his 10 overs and was awarded the Player of the Match. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Sodhi spoke of Bangladesh's kind gesture to call him back to bat.

"Really good day. Historically we haven't done well here and hence it is nice to get the win. Nice of Litton for calling me back after the mankad. That was the whole reason we decided to bat first as the ball would spin more in the second innings, even Ravindra and McConchie got the ball to spin. Playing ODI cricket leading into the WC is awesome, but this is a difficult place to play and to walk away with a win is awesome," he said.
