2nd April 2023 marks the 12th anniversary of India's historic World Cup victory in 2011. MS Dhoni and his team defeated Sri Lanka at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium, with the skipper scoring the iconic match-winning six, to win India's second World Cup and first since 1983.

On the big day, Chennai, an Indian T20 League franchise, shared a majestic tweet of Dhoni recreating that magical moment during his practice session, which made fans nostalgic. The video also included images from the match-winning moments in Mumbai, with the caption: “When nostalgia hits!”

In response to the target of 275, India lost Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag early in the chase, with Lasith Malinga keeping the Wankhede crowd quiet. Virat Kohli then looked to repel the attack, putting on an 83-run stand with Gautam Gambhir before he was dismissed by Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Gambhir then combined with Dhoni for a stunning century stand that propelled India to the brink of an iconic victory, but he fell short of a deserving century. Dhoni, on the other hand, completed the chase in the game's penultimate over, sending the fuller delivery from Nuwan Kulasekara for a six over long-on as Ravi Shastri uttered one of the most famous lines in Indian cricket history, "Dhoni finishes off in style. A magnificent strike into the crowd! India lift the World Cup after 28 years!"

In the meantime, Dhoni enthralled the Ahmedabad crowd on Friday with a stunning six over deep square leg in the Indian T20 League 2023 season opener against defending champions Gujarat, scoring a seven-ball 14. Chennai, on the other hand, failed to get off to a winning start, losing their fourth consecutive match in the Indian T20 League, three of which came last season.

The Yellow Army will play their next game against Lucknow on the 3rd of April at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. This will be Chennai's first home game since the 2019 season.
