Ravichandran Ashwin has been in great form since his return to ODI cricket in 2022. He has bowled really well in the first two ODIs of the three-match ODI series against Australia. Ashwin has picked up three wickets in the last match giving out 41 runs in his 10 overs.
He recently broke the long-held record of legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble. With three wickets in the 2nd ODI, Ashwin went on to take his total to 144 wickets against Australia, breaking the record of Kumble, who had 142 wickets against the Kangaroos. Now, he holds the record for most wickets taken in ODI cricket against a single opponent.
In the 2nd ODI, Ashwin bowled a brilliant delivery to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne. The batter was shocked by the way the ball spun and hit his stumps. The 37-year-old spinner has explained his thinking and preparation behind the stunning carrom ball he bowled to dislodge the wicket of the Australian batter.

In a recent video released by the Indian Cricket Board, Ashwin explained his logic behind using that carrom ball at that stage, "I wanted to keep the length perfectly, in terms of trying to keep it away from the batter and also change pace,” said Ashwin. “I think Marnus tried to play a reverse sweep before that. So, I was expecting him to try and reverse and then probably try to slog sweep and all that. So I wanted to keep my pace up and down, just in case
"I worked a little bit with Sairaj
Ashwin further added, "What I was pleased was with the amount of uncertainty I was able to create concerning both edges of the blade is something that I have been working on and wanting to do it, because when I go into this sort of a carrom ball, slider mode, the angles are pretty similar, the lines and the release points are very similar. So I wanted to bring both edges into play, which I was able to do. It has been in the offing for a while and I’m glad I was able to execute."
