In Qualifier 1 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023, Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) beat Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) by seven wickets on Wednesday. TKR Won the toss and elected to field first. In an over of Terrance Hinds bowling to Odean Smith he bowled a short delivery to the all-rounder he could not control the ball it went up in the air for a possible catch.

Hinds and batter Chadwick Walton both went for the catch as the ball went up in the air, eventually colliding while attempting to take the catch. TKR will now take on the winner of Qualifier 2 to be played between Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs on Friday.

Chadwick Walton guides TKR to CPL final 

Batting first openers Saim Ayub and Odean Smith got his side off to a decent start. The former scored 49 runs off 39 balls. Azam Khan scored 36 runs off 27 balls. No other batters could get the team going and gave support to these two batters. Romario Shepherd, Shai Hope, and Dwaine Pretorious could not convert their starts. Wickets fell at regular intervals and they could only score 166/7. Salamkheil and Hinds would both prove to be vital for the Knight Riders, as they took wickets each.

In response, TKR got off to a flying start. Openers Chadwick Walton and Mark Deyal combined to give their side an ideal start to the chase they were 41-0 in overs 4 overs. Wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran and Walton put up a 51-run partnership with Walton before he was dismissed by Dwaine Pretorius.

Walton who was unbeaten 80 runs off 57 balls with six fours and four sixes. He was supported by captain Kieron Pollard batting alongside him. The Knight Riders would win by 7 wickets to secure their place in Sunday’s final. The opener was named the man of the match, he said, "I would like to say thanks to the players and coaches for having confidence in me. Treated this as just another game. It was an emotional half-century. Been a while since I got a fifty. Kudos to the guys who trusted me."

CPL
