India is set to face arch-rival Pakistan in the Super 4 game of the Asia Cup 2023 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Ahead of Sunday's high-voltage game, Star India batter Shubman Gill spoke about the challenge posed by Pakistani pacers. He said the team is prepared for that.
Talking about India's struggle against left-arm pacers, Gill praised Pakistan's bowling attack. "When you are playing at this level, you have played left-arm pacers at some point in your career. We do not play Pakistan that much as compared to the other sides. They have a quality bowling attack. When you do not face such a bowling attack frequently and are not used to it, it makes a difference", says Gill.
Speaking about his partnership with India skipper Rohit Sharma, Gill once again echoed that they complement each other. "I am someone who likes to play along the ground in the powerplay. Rohit takes on bowlers aerially. This combination works well for us. How different we are as players makes it difficult for bowlers to contain us," said Gill.
"It's just about the bowlers", Shubman Gill says about his form
During the press conference, Gill also spoke about his poor form since the Indian Premier League 2023. He said that it's not about technique but about bowlers, as they are also there to take wickets. "Yes, you go back to the good times (during a slump). Sometimes it is not even about technique. It is not just about the bowlers; they are also there to take wickets. You can get some good deliveries. When you play well, things go in your favour. You just have to trust your game and keep going to get those big runs," he said.
It's worth noting that India shared points in their first group game against Pakistan due to rain. In the second game, they thrashed Nepal by 10 wickets after a brief rain interruption. On Sunday, there is also a chance of heavy rainfall, which might wash out another India vs. Pakistan game in the Asia Cup 2023. However, there is a reserve day for the high-voltage game on September 11.
