'We don't get to play some of the best players in the world very often' - Pakistan Head Coach comments on poor performance from Pakistan team

India made it difficult for Pakistan to score in the Asia Cup 2023 and won by securing a resounding 228-run in the Super 4 clash. This comprehensive victory unfolded over a two-day match, where India thoroughly outperformed Pakistan. This defeat was also the heaviest defeat in terms of runs in the ODI format. It is also fair to say that the Babar Azam-led side was completely outplayed in every department.

After the match, in the post-match conference, the head coach of the Pakistan Cricket team, Grant Bradburn referred to the defeat as a 'valuable lesson' and expressed gratitude to India for their performance in the match. The former New Zealand international emphasized that the significant loss to India will act as a 'wake-up call' for the team as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup, considering their relatively successful streak over the past three months.

"My gut feeling is that we are grateful for the gift that has been this last two days. We have not lost a game of cricket for the last three months, so it is a timely reminder that we need to turn up every day, put in our best in the park, and it's actually a gift in the last two days we have not done that. We don't get to play some of the best players in the world very often," the Pakistan head coach said.

I am confident that we will bounce back: Bradburn

Further in the interview, the Pakistan head coach admitted that his team was not quite up to the mark. Irrespective of the manner of the loss, Bradburn remains optimistic about his team's ability to make a comeback. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli of India both notched centuries, contributing to the team's total of 356 runs. Subsequently, Kuldeep Yadav wreaked havoc among the Pakistan batsmen, securing a 5-wicket haul.

"We lost at all facets of the game. No excuses, we weren't good enough in the last two days. Certainly, wasn't a surprise. Everyone's seen how lethal our bowling attack is and good teams will counteract that. Our batting unit hasn't clicked in the past month and again, that is a positive sign. We have full trust in them. We are very consistent with our selection. We know they will come right, " Bradburn concluded.
