Former legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni is one of the greatest captains in the history of the game. The 41-year-old former skipper is the only player in the world to have won all white-ball titles and has led India to three major world trophies. Dhoni has demonstrated his cricketing prowess not just in international competition but also in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five trophies.

When he was 26 years old, MSD led the group in the first 20-20 World Cup. This was his first time in charge of the squad and he helped the team to win the inaugural World Cup. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar, who served as a chief selector at the time, has clarified how captain cool assumed the initiative in every format.

“Apart from being an automatic choice in the team, you look at the player’s cricketing acumen, body language, ability to lead from the front and man management skills. We saw Dhoni's approach to the game, body language, how he spoke to others; we got positive feedback," Vengsarkar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

MS Dhoni set to work on his fitness for another IPL season

Talking about CSK’s recent performance under Dhoni, they were declared the winners of the recently concluded IPL 2023 after defeating the Gujarat Titans by five wickets to win the championship for the fifth time. With this victory, they also tied the record of the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI), who had previously won the championship five times.

The 41-year-old shocked the crowd when he revealed that he will be working on his fitness to play one more season as a gift to his fans who have supported him throughout the season. However, many fans anticipated that it might be Dhoni's final game due to numerous rumours about his retirement.

“Circumstantially if you see, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say "Thank you very much", but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another 9 months and come back and play at least 1 more season of IPL.” Dhoni said after the final.
