As India beat arch-rival Pakistan in the Super 4 game of the Asia Cup 2023 by 228 runs, the hosts are facing criticism from all around the globe. Due to their poor bowling and batting performances, former Pakistan and India cricketers are critically analysing the team. Meanwhile, former India skipper and World Cup winner Sunil Gavaskar slammed Pakistani batters.
In a recent conversation, Gavaskar asked Pakistan about the number of batters they have. He also claimed that apart from Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, not a single batter posed a threat to other teams. Gavaskar's furious comments came after Pakistan lost the game to India. In a rain-interrupted game, the hosts failed to chase 357 runs and got bowled out for a mere 128 runs in 39 overs.
Speaking about their batting, Gavaskar said, "In cricket, there are no ifs and buts. But the way Pakistan batted today, it seemed India would have been able to defend 266 the other day if the game (the first match) had carried on. You know, people, particularly in Pakistan, keep on talking about India having only one or two players. I mean, how many players does Pakistan have? Particularly in the batting department. Apart from Babar, who do they have?"
"They don't scare bowlers", Sunil Gavaskar says of Pakistan
Further, Gavaskar added that not a single Pakistani batter poses a threat that anyone should spend time planning for. He said, "When the bowling team of the opposition sits down and dissects their batting, they will spend a lot of time on how to get Babar out. But I don't think they would spend half the time on the others. None of them are such that they would scare the bowling group of the opposition team."
It's worth noting that India might once again face Pakistan in the Asia Cup finals on Sunday, September 17. However, for another marquee game, India will need to beat Sri Lanka in their next game. The team will then qualify for the finals, and then it can wait for its arch-rivals there. Meanwhile, Pakistan will also need to beat either Sri Lanka or Bangladesh in their next game to qualify for the finals.
