The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 second season is just a few weeks away. All the teams are gearing up the waiting for the top-tier league to kick off. The teams in the auction have made the changes and additions to their teams as per the requirements of the franchise. The tournament will witness 22 matches altogether which will take place in Bengaluru and Delhi.

Mumbai Indians (MI) won the inaugural edition of the tournament. Harmanpreet Kaur's side played as favourites and came out on top and won the tournament beating Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final of the tournament. Kaur's side will be looking for a similar result and defend the trophy in the second year of the tournament.

They have added some of the big names in the auction and with one of the best teams on paper, they will look to execute a similar on the pitch. In the article, we will be doing a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) of the defending champions ahead of the WPL

SWOT analysis of MI

Strength

The biggest strength of this team is their batters and all-rounders. They have a variety of all-rounders in the side for the season. With the likes of Amelia Kerr and West Indies player Hayley Matthews. The latter was the highest wicket-taker in the previous edition of the league and also was in the top 5 list of the leading run-getters for the tournament. Nat Sciver-Brunt gives an extra flavour of experience to the side, as she was the second-highest run scorer in the tournament. She also picked 10 wickets as well.

Weakness

Their fast bowling department is looking a bit weak. MI lack experience among Indian pacers apart from Pooja Vastrakar they have roped in the former South African pacer Shabnim Ismail, but her age and injury will be a concern for the side as they do not have any backup for the experienced speedster. In high-pressure games, the team might suffer if these above-mentioned bowlers are being smashed.

Opportunities

With the amount of depth in the squad, they are looking like a formidable side, though the pace department looks a little weak, with the quality of overseas players and Indian all-rounders, they give trouble to the opponents. Two youngsters Humaira Kazi and Jintimani Kalita have the best opportunity to display their skills in the upcoming WPL. They will have the opportunity to win the trophy once again.

Threats

The over-dependency on the overseas and Indian all-rounders might backlash for the side. Though they have the skill and ability to win the game the side-off days for cricketers might come and there they might face some problems. Another problem for the side is their captain's form as she had a tough time in the recently concluded home series against Australia and England. The batter failed to perform as per the expectations of the fans.
