'World Cup ka schedule dedo pehle' - Fans react as Indian Cricket Board donate 2.25 crores to Constitution Club of India

ICB donates a whopping amount of 2.25 crores to the club for Parliamentarians which was asked by the club back in December 2022.

The Indian Cricket Board (ICB) in December last year decided to donate an amount of Rs. 2.25 crores for gym equipment to the Constitution Club of India (CCI). This is basically a club that is used by the past as well as present members of parliament as a “platform for interaction”.

Also, December 21, 2022 meeting of the Apex Council recalled that in the meeting, the secretary of ICB, Jay Shah brought to the notice of the then members of ICB that the CCI have requested funds from the ICB for the procurement of gym equipment. Based on the negotiation on the cost and availability of the documents, a final quote was submitted to the ICB, which provided a final cost of Rs 2.27 crores. In this regard, it is suggested that a lump sum of Rs 2.25 crores be donated to CCI directly towards the purchase of gym equipment.

The major purpose of fostering social contacts

A note on CCI's website describes the club, located at the Vithal Bhai Patel House in Delhi, as the Constitution Club of India was opened in February 1947 with the objectives & purposes of fostering social contacts and providing usual amenities of club life for the benefit of the members of the Indian Constituent Assembly. Whereas the Constitution Club of India has effectively emerged as an enviable forum providing a platform for interaction amongst the past & present members of Parliament."

The speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, who is also the President of the club followed by Harivansh Singh, the General Secretary. Moreover, Hardeep Singh Puri holds the designation of Union minister of Urban development and is also the Vice President of the club along with Rajiv Shukla, who is also a Rajya Sabha member from the Congress Party, holding the designation of sports secretary of the club.
