Australia beat India by 66 runs in the final ODI of the three-match ODI series. Batting first the visitors took advantage of the powerplay. They scored runs quickly on a batting heaven pitch and posted a huge total of 352 with the loss of 7 wickets. With four batters scoring fifties and Mitchell Marsh missing out on a well-deserved century.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They made five changes in their side, with Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, and leg-spinner Tanhvi Sangha making his debut. The Aussies batting first they got a brilliant start with opener David Warner and Mitchell Marsh giving them the best start in this series. They made a partnership of 78 runs before Warner was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna for 56 runs off 34 balls, hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes.
Marsh and Steve Smith looked in good touch against the Indian bowlers. They built a 137-run partnership before Marsh who missed a well-deserved hundred got out for 96 runs. There was immense heat and humidity Smith had a chair on the ground as well as an ice pack in order to keep himself hydrated.
Marsh and Maxwell shine for Australia
Smith reached a milestone of achieving 5000 ODI runs. He was eventually dismissed by Mohammed Siraj for 74 runs off 61 balls. Marnus Labuschagne continued his form and scored another half-century off 43 deliveries. He has been in brilliant touch since his snub from the provisional World Cup squad. He had 72 runs and was dismissed at the death overs.
In response, skipper Rohit Sharma was off to a flyer. Washington Sundar who was opening on Wednesday played more of a supportive role. India reached the 50-run mark in just 6.4 overs. Rohit Sharma looked in sensational touch the fans saw some clinical hitting from the India skipper. He attacked their two main pacers Starc and Cummins. Rohit and Kohli built a decent 70-run partnership. He was eventually out for 81 runs off 57 balls, hitting 5 fours and 6 sixes, at a strike rate of 142.10. Kohli scored another half-century off 56 deliveries.
Shreyas Iyer was looking in good touch though he could not convert his start into a big score he was out after a 43-ball 48. After his wicket, India were down to 249 for 6. Jadeja was out in the second last over after scoring 35 runs. Maxwell was the pick of the bowlers for the Aussies picking up 4 wickets with three of them being wickets of well-settled batters Rohit, Kohli, and Iyer.
