Royal Rumble has become one of the most talked-about events in WWE's line of pay-per-views. Being the first mega event of the new year, it sets the precedent for the biggest WWE event WrestleMania, which takes place in April.
The 2023 Royal Rumble will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. It will be the fourth Royal Rumble event to be held in San Antonio after 1997, 2007, and 2017 events and the third to take place at the Alamodome, following 1997 and 2017.
The 30-men Royal Rumble has marked the return of several superstars. From John Cena to Rey Mysterio to Edge and even Triple H himself have made their returns at Royal Rumble after a long hiatus. This time too, it is expected that some superstars might come back to compete in the 30-men main event. For the 2023 event, the winners of both the men's and women's matches receive a choice of which world championship to challenge for at WrestleMania 39. The men can choose to challenge for either Raw's WWE Championship or SmackDown's Universal Championship.
It will boost our city’s economy: San Antonio’s mayor
Along with WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series, the Royal Rumble is considered to be one of the WWE’s “Big Four” events with tickets in extremely high demand. The importance of the event and the demand for tickets will impact Royal Rumble ticket prices. Other factors that can change the ticket prices include the seating capacity of the stadium or arena, seating location, and how well the match card has been built upon WWE televised shows.
San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said that they are excited and thrilled to bring back the major WWE event to San Antonio. He said that this event will give boost to the economy of their city.
“We are thrilled to bring back one of WWE’s most exciting events of the year to San Antonio, Royal Rumble will bring tens of thousands of WWE fans from around the world to the Alamodome, bringing both an incredible economic boost to our beautiful city and community outreach events that will give back in a multitude of ways.” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg.
