The first-ever Major League Cricket saw an incredible end as MI New York defeated Seattle Orcas to bag the inaugural trophy. The match started with New York winning the toss and decided to bowl first. Seattle Orcas having been invited to bat saw an early setback as opener batter Nauman Anwar was dismissed at just 9 runs.
Another batter, Quinton de Kock however gave an example of his incredible talent by bringing out a brilliant half-century (87 off 52). In his inning-defining knock, de Kock hit 9 fours and 4 sixes. The South African batter however did not receive much support from others as wickets kept falling at regular intervals.
The second-highest scorer from Seattle Orcas was Shubham Ranjane who made 29 off 16. With the help of De Kock's inning, Seattle Orcas managed to get 183/9 on the board, which looked like a good total.
Trent Boult and Rashid Khan were the pick of the bowlers from the MI New York side as they took 3 wickets each.
In response, MINY started off poorly as they lost their first wicket at zero runs. Captain Nicholas Pooran then walked onto the field and took the game by the scruff of the neck. The West Indies southpaw hit a brilliant century and snatched the game away from the Seattle Orcas. Pooran ended the inning with an unbeaten 137 in just 55 balls and brought home the first even MLC trophy for the MINY team.
Pooran hit 10 fours and 13 maximums to bring an end to the run chase in just 16 overs in what has been one of the most one-sided finals in recent times. Young South Africa batter Dewald Brevis also helped with his 20 off 18, but it was mostly the West Indian's final.
Understandably so, Pooran was handed the Player of the Match award for his match-winning performance. With this win, MINY become the first team to win the Major League Cricket. Naturally, the team and the fans were ectstaic after the win. Fans on social media also applauded the team for their win.
