Kane Williamson sustained an injury while playing for the defending champion Gujarat Titans (GT) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Williamson's injury was so severe that he had to miss the entire tournament, and since then, there have been concerns over his availability for the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India in 2023.

Meanwhile, Williamson has finally opened up on his chances and intentions about the upcoming major event while talking about his injury. The Kiwi batter said that he is taking the treatment week-to-week and also making progress. Williamson also said that this is the first time he had a long-time injury but he will surely get recovered slowly.

"I'm just trying to keep it week-to-week at the moment, I'm making progress, but I'm not putting a timeline on anything. I haven't had such a long-term injury before but talking to other people that have, the journey is a bit of a long one so if you look too far ahead it can probably become a little bit daunting.

Whereas, one week at a time, ticking off those small markers, those little wins that are nice to experience. But also knowing that the journey won't be completely smooth and you have a few setbacks along the way that you have to navigate." Williamson was quoted as saying by India Today.

I’m super keen to get back in the nets: Kane Williamson

Williamson led the Blackcaps to the finals of the 2019 World Cup but couldn’t lift the trophy and was left heartbroken. However, the right-hander said that he is super keen to get back in the nets after getting fully recovered and gaining the match-fitness.

"Probably more for sanity and changing things up ... just nice to mix up all the gym work and the physio work and rehab-specific stuff to spend a bit of time with some of the other guys that are training. I’m super keen to get back in the nets, for sure." he said
