'Ye itna jeetna bhi koi jeetna hai..' - Fans react as India defeat West Indies by five wickets in first ODI

India absolutely outplayed the West Indies in the opening One Day International on Thursday at Kensington Oval in Barbados, displaying both class and dominance. India, the two-time World Champions who were vanquished, requested that the home team bat on a surface that was initially better for batting after winning the toss. West Indies, on the other hand, had trouble hitting the ball. The Shai Hope-led squad played below-par cricket and was eliminated from the ODI World Cup.

The host showed a poor display with the bat as they were bundled out with just 114 runs on board and were completely outplayed against the spin of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. With some excellent spin, Kuldeep Yadav shook the West Indian batting order, finishing with a result of 4 for 6 in his three overs. Shai Hope (43), Dominic Drakes (3), Y Cariah (3), and Jayden Seales (0) were all dismissed by the left-arm spinner, who also caused havoc on the home team.

The star India all-rounder also bagged a brilliant three wickets for 37 runs in his spell of six overs and bowled in tough areas to which the West Indies batter had no reply too. Chasing a meagre total, Captain Sharma made the decision to play around with the batting order.

Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur, and Hardik Pandya were unable to have any significant impact, hence the shuffle was not unsuccessful. With an easy chase in hand, the Indian batting lineup struggled against spin bowling once again as the Indian batters showed a very poor display of bat.

The shuffle made in the batting lineup was primarily because the Indian team wanted the youngsters to perform as the ODI World Cup 2023 is just around the corner and it is a fact that India still have a lot of questions to answer in terms of their playing 11 as well as their squad. Eventually, after so many hiccups India were able to chase down the target with five wickets in hand and take a 1-0 lead in the series of three ODI matches.
