The Indian Cricket Board secretary, Jay Shah unveiled the official mascot of the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 League on Thursday, March 2. The mascot has been named, Shakti. Meanwhile, preparations have also been made for the grand opening of the upcoming league happening for the first time.

Bollywood actresses Kiara Advani and Kriti Senon are set to perform at the opening ceremony. Punjabi singer, AP Dhillon will light up the ceremony with his groovy songs. The first match of the League will be played between Mumbai and Gujarat on 4th March at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 pm, while entry into the stadium will begin at 4 pm.

The tournament will run for 23 days. The final match will be played on March 26 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The entire league will be played in these two stadiums. 5 teams will play 22 matches in 23 days. There will be 20 league matches and two playoff games. Four double-header matches will be played in the first season. 5 teams are participating in the first season of the league. These include Delhi, Gujarat, Mumbai, Bangalore, and UP.

India's vice-captain and opening batter Smriti Mandhana became the most expensive player in the auction which took place on February 13. She was sold to the Bangalore-based franchise at a whopping price of INR 3.40 crore. Australia's Ashleigh Gardner and England's Natalie Sciver Brunt were the costliest overseas players. Both were bought for Rs 3.20 crore.

The Women’s T20 League marks a tipping point in the growth of women’s cricket in Indi and the world. From the sport being available as a hobby to steps being taken towards an increasingly professional setup, the women’s game has come a long way.

Meanwhile, 448 players participated in this auction. A total of 87 players were sold. These include 30 foreigners and 57 Indian cricketers. Out of these, four players were bought by the franchisee between Rs 2 crore and Rs 3 crore, and three players for more than Rs 3 crore.
