RR came into this game against the backdrop of a defeat at the hands of the Mumbai Indians. At the same time, GT were riding on a surprising loss of their own at the hands of the Delhi Capitals.

The home team won the toss and elected to bat first. However, they were struck by the expertise of the GT bowlers as they were bowled out for 118 inside 18 overs. For RR, the solitary wicket was bagged by Yuzvendra Chahal, who dismissed Shubman Gill in the 10 overs.
