Former Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez might become the chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Team. He retired from international cricket in 2021 after the T20 World Cup. In 2019, he retired from ODI cricket alongside Shoaib Malik. Talking about Hafeez, he was part of the Champion Trophy 2017 winning side. The right-hander has played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is, and eight games of the Indian Premier League.

Meanwhile, last month, Najam Sethi resigned from PCB chairpersonship after the previous CMC was dissolved. The 2017 Champions Trophy winner is known to be close to the newly-appointed, Zaka Ashraf. When the former became the T20I skipper in 2012, Ashraf was at the helm of affairs. The former skipper was also present during their Asia Cup 2023 trophy unveiling event a few days back.

Meanwhile, it is reported that another former skipper Rashid Latif was asked to take the job. However, he rejected the offer but Hafeez is keen to take the job. The former wicketkeeper-batter, Latif, is more interested in working to solve corruption issues in Pakistan cricket

“Zaka met with former captain, Rashid Latif and Hafeez and spoke to them about becoming chief selector. Rashid was not keen on the job but Hafeez (has) expressed his availability for the job,” the source told PTI.

“Rashid was more interested in working on anti-corruption issues. Hafeez who played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is for Pakistan before retiring last year, made it clear that he would like the challenge of working as the chief selector,” the source added.

Notably, Latif time and again claimed that franchise cricket across the globe is run on black money. Also, in one of his YouTube videos the Pakistan Super League wasn't fully proof of corruption such as match and spot-fixing.
