Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) could not get the fairytale ending in the IPL league stage that they hoped for as Gujarat Titans (GT) beat them by six wickets. This meant that Bangalore finished sixth on the points table and Mumbai Indians (MI) made it to the playoffs of IPL 2023 as the fourth-placed team. RCB had great moments but an inconsistent season in 2023. RCB will now have to wait for another year to get their hands on an IPL trophy.

Virat Kohli has had another outstanding season in IPL 2023 for RCB. Kohli has been a bedrock for RCB with the bat yet again as he scored 639 runs in 14 innings. The former RCB skipper had an average of 53.25 and a strike rate of 139.82. The 34-year-old has scored six half-centuries and two centuries for the Bold Army. Kohli penned down an emotional post to the RCB fans after their campaign ended.

Here is the tweet:

Royal Challengers Bangalore have not won an Indian Premier League Trophy

A season which had it's moments but unfortunately, we fell short of the goal. Disappointed but we must hold our heads high. To our loyal supporters, grateful for backing us every step of the way. Kohli wrote in a heartfelt tweet. RCB have not been able to win an IPL trophy in 16 editions of the league. They have however made it to three finals in 2009, 2011, 2016. The Bold Army also made it to the playoffs in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

RCB need to work on their shortcomings to win an IPL trophy. They were hit by injuries to two of their lead bowlers in Reece Topley and David Willey. Josh Hazelwood did not play the full season for them. They were very short strapped on bowling resources. Wayne Parnell did a good job of filling in. Wanindu Hasaranga also could not replicate the heroics of the 2022 season.

As always RCB have been very dependent on three players in Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis who have scored majority of the runs for the Bold Army. The young Indian players consisting of Mahipal Lomror, Suyash Prabhudessai and Anuj Rawat did not set the stage on fire for them in IPL 2023.
