There are lots of major tournaments in 2023 but the one which the fans are keeping an eye on is the 50-over World Cup, which is set to take place in October and India will be hosting the tournament. Many former cricketers are sharing their thoughts on what would be India's playing XI in the tournament.

Former Indian cricketers Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Yusuf Pathan, and Sanjay Manjrekar were, recently, seen commentating on Star Sports for the ongoing IPL season. Srikkanth was asked about his playing XI for the upcoming WC. However, while naming the players, Srikkanth also gave a savage reply to Manjrekar, due to which both Yusuf and Manjrekar couldn't stop themselves to laugh out loud.

“Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, number four I'll still pick Suryakumar Yadav. KL Rahul could be fifth, Hardik Pandya sixth. Ravindra Jadeja at 7, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj,” Srikkanth said.

However, Srikkanth's befitting reply came, when Manjrekar said that Shardul Thakur could also be included in the playing XI, Srikkanth savagely refused Manjrekar's opinion and said.

“Not Shardul. Arshdeep could be there. Shardul can take wickets, but he can also concede 12 runs in an over. You're from Mumbai, that's why you're naming Shardul. Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav; two of these spinners can play in the XI,” Srikkanth concluded.

A great season here could make him a contender: Virender Sehwag on Varun Chakravarthy

As India will be hosting the ODI World Cup, the spinners can play a major role for the team and they now have five possibilities for spinners. Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel are all-rounders, while Kuldeep and Chahal are specialist possibilities. However, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag suggested that Varun Chakravarthy can also be a contender.

"Varun Chakravarthy doesn't have the ball that goes away like a proper wrist spinner. He relies on topspin and googlies predominantly and the RCB batters didn't play him well, getting played on a couple of times. Who knows, a great season here could make him a contender for the 2023 World Cup in India." he said.
