As the T20 World Cup 2024 is set to start on June 2, team India is hoping to get its star players back in the team before the start of the tournament. There are a bunch of experienced players who have been away from the game for quite a long time and the fans are wishing for their return. Mohammed Shami, who underwent a heel injury, is in the process of recovering and might be fit before the T20 World Cup 2024. He has not played a single match post the ODI World Cup 2023 where he was third in the leading wicket-takers list.
Virat Kohli is also among those who have been away from Cricket for a long time. After the Afghanistan series, he hasn't played any matches as he opted out of the England tour due to personal reasons. Moreover, he's set to return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and will then join the Indian squad for the World Cup. Next on the list is India's most-wanted cricketer, Rishabh Pant. Coming from a severe life-threatening accident, Pant is recovering from the injuries and is practising for the IPL. Seeing him practice keeping and batting in the nets made the entire cricket fraternity happy.
India's star bowler Jasprit Bumrah opted out of the fourth Test match against England due to excessive workload. However, he's returning for the fifth Test match in Dharamsala. This gives the fans a ray of hope for him playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and then joining the Indian team ahead of the World Cup. India's keeper-batter, Ishan Kishan, who has not played any competitive cricket after the ODI World Cup 2023 will be back for the IPL and if he manages to impress the selectors he might feature in the T20 World Cup team as well.
'Perhaps he may not play in IPL as well' - Sunil Gavaskar on India's star player
Sunil Gavaskar was quite clear in his opinion when asked about Virat Kohli's performance in the IPL. As per the former cricketer, Kohli might miss the IPL season due to his family emergency. During an interview, when Gavaskar was asked about Kohli's return, he playfully said the latter might not play in the tournament.
“Kya woh khelenge… kuchh reason ke liye khel nahin rahe hain, shaayad ho sakta hai ke IPL ke liye bhi na khele (Will he play… He is not playing because of some reason, perhaps he may not play in IPL as well.”
