The modern-day great Virat Kohli finally smashed his 28th Test century after a long gap of three years, three months and 17 days in the final Test of the four-match Test series against Australia in Ahmedabad. The right-handed batter got off to a tricky start when he had to survive a few balls before the tea break on Day 3 but looked in good touch since then.
Kohli took his time initially and played some glorious shots in his innings. While reaching close to the milestone, he flicked the in the gap and scored his 75th hundred in international cricket. A sense of relief could be seen on Kohli’s face as he took the helmet off and kissed his ring. However, it is still a long way to wipe off the deficit, but he soaked up all the pressure and played a mature knock.
Shubman Gill also smashed a hundred in the 4th match
Talking about the match, the Australian team opted to bat first after winning the toss and displayed a brilliant show with the bat as they scored 480 runs in the first innings with the help of magnificent centuries by Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green. Both also stitched an outstanding 208-run stand for the fifth wicket.
India’s veteran off-spinner R Ashwin was the only bowler who asked some questions to the Australian batters and picked up 6 wickets in the first innings. While coming to bat, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started confidently but the former couldn’t convert the start into a big one. On the other hand, Gill took full advantage of the flat Ahmedabad surface and smashed his 2nd Test century.
Later, Kohli and KS Bharat joined hands and stitched a brilliant 84-run stand for the fifth wicket. Bharat also produced some entertaining shots for the crowd as he smashed 2 sixes and 1 four in a single over of Green. The Indian batters will now look to get some quick runs to get a lead of around 150 runs before the day ends. This match is very important for the Men in Blue in order to qualify for the upcoming Test championship final.
