On Friday, June 30, the players' draft for the next Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 was made public. The six teams which will take part in the event have chosen the top T20 players from the West Indies, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Australia, and England for the upcoming season, which begins on August 16.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka fast bowling sensation Matheesha Pathirana is set to make his CPL debut after getting selected by Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the draft. Having played under the guidance of the former legendary West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo earlier this year when playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Pathirana, will rejoin him.

Bravo, who served as the bowling coach for CSK during the 16th edition of IPL, will participate in both the forthcoming MLC matchup and the ensuing CPL as a player. Noor Ahmad, a left-arm wrist-spinner from Afghanistan who played a key role in the Gujarat Titans (GT) team that advanced to the IPL 2023 final, was also signed by the TKR. Sunil Narine, Akeal Hosein, and Mark Deyal, who can also turn the ball both ways, are already part of the Knight Riders. The 18-year-old will bring even more skill and intrigue to it.

We’re very happy: TKR's head coach Phil Simmons

TKR is one of the most prosperous franchises in the history of CPL and earlier they already announced that six players will be returning for the tournament's 2023 iteration. Kieron Pollard, the team captain, Andre Russell, Nicholas Pooran, Sunil Narine, Jayden Seales, and Akeal Hosein are among the six players that the Trinbago Knight Riders have kept.

During a discussion about the team, Trinbago coach Phil Simmons expressed his satisfaction at having been able to keep the majority of his team from the previous year. He claimed that the team's core would be strengthened by the experience of players like Pollard, Narine, Russell, Pooran, and Bravo.

“We’re very happy to be able to retain most of the Caribbean players from last year’s TKR squad. The experience of Pollard, Narine, Russell, and Pooran, coupled with Bravo’s return gives our squad a very strong core,” Simmons was quoted as saying by Wisden India.
