With less than 100 days left to go for the ODI World Cup 2023 which is scheduled to be played in India later this year, the Indian team have some major injury concerns to address. Some of the probable players on the list of the World Cup squad are still recovering from injury and then getting them match-fit will certainly be a huge task for the team management.
The availability of three of India’s first-choice players, who are now sidelined due to injury, have shown signs of improvement and impressive recovery. Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer are presently recovering from their injury at National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. It would be interesting to see how their body responds to the injury as India is scheduled to play Asia Cup coming months. Asia Cup certainly serves as a perfect practice ground for India and will help the Indian team to find the right combination going into the marquee combination.
As per reported by Indian Express, if their recovery goes according to plan, Bumrah and Rahul will be available for selection for the Asia Cup set to be played in two months’ time Iyer is yet to recover, and India are looking at Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav as cover. Bumrah, who underwent back surgery in March, is said to have already begun bowling at the NCA nets, and his recovery is said to be going well thus far.
There is a chance that the pacer will be ready for the World Cup in time for India's visit to Ireland in August, but the Indian team management and medical staff are not in the mood to rush. The 29-year-old hasn't participated in any competitive cricket since last September because of a recurrent back issue. Bumrah was advised to have surgery for the back-stress reaction when the injury recurred during the home season in January, and after finishing his recovery is gradually increasing his bowling workload.
KL Rahul who also sustained an injury in his thigh at the IPL is likely to make a comeback which will be a huge help for the team, which is also lacking Iyer at No. 4, just like Bumrah was. Since he began batting at No. 5, Rahul has played a crucial role in giving the finishing touches and has been among the most reliable players.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the news regarding the speculations of the duo returning for the Asia Cup:

Rahul as a wicket keeper will be disaster! Imagine at crucial moment he drops Smith in Semi-final.. Nobody will blame him then..only management and captain will be blamed for Choosing a part-time wicket keeper

This WC isnt a group fixtured like ICT in a group with one top team and rest all minows..
Each team has to play every other team..
ICT will not reach semis 🫢

Thanks 👍😊
Ye dono jab tak rahenge Paytm ke alawa koi trophy nhi jitne wali india
Special Kota se aate hai ye dono jo bina form ke bhi team me select kr liye jate hai.
The Asia Cup shouldn't be a tournament to come back and get form/ fitness. The mandate should be to play 5-10 domestic/practise games in order to be cleared to play International games. We have enough bench strength fit and are waiting for a chance.
