Team India are coming off a disappointing defeat in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 cycle’s Final against Australia at the Oval, London. The Indians were comprehensively defeated by the Aussies by 209 runs as they outplayed the consecutive finalists in all departments of the game. Following the heartbreaking loss, Indian players were out on a short off-season where numerous players were seen sharing photos from their vacation. However, that will soon be ending as the Indian Cricket Board has just announced the squad for the upcoming tour of the West Indies and the USA.

Talking of the ODI squad, the 17-member contingent features Rohit Sharma captaining the side while Hardik Pandya will be assisting him in the vice captain’s role. While the team is mostly conventional, several Rajasthan Royals will be happy that their skipper Sanju Samson is back in the national team for the limited-overs game. Mukesh Kumar, a right-arm quick is another key pick who finds himself in the squad. He was picked for the series against South Africa as well. However, he has not yet made his debut for the national team.

Cheteshwar Pujara was snubbed from the Test squad

On the same day, The Indian Cricket Board also announced the Test squad for the upcoming tour. Notably, Cheteshwar Pujara found no place in the team following his flop show in the WTC 2021-23 Final against Australia. He was playing county cricket before that and given his experience in red-ball Cricket, a lot was expected of him. Alas, he failed to deliver. The Test team has a few exciting picks in the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad, on the backdrop of a fabulous season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 finds himself in both ODI and Test teams.

The tour of the West Indies and the USA will feature two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. The number of T20Is in a World Cup year was earlier contested by many. But, this seems to be the final composition of the tour that starts with the first Test on July 12.

Here’s the full ODI squad: Rohit Sharma (Capt), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (VC), Shardul Thakur, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar.
