Former Indian captain MS Dhoni's name is once again being echoed in the country as he is all set to play the much-awaited 16th edition of the Indian T20 League starting on March 31. The Chennai-based franchise led by Dhoni will be in action in the very first match against the defending champions Gujarat.

Meanwhile, ahead of the tournament, Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma talked about the 2011 World cup-winning captain and said that he is fit enough to play the upcoming 2-3 seasons more. Many fans appreciated this statement of Rohit while there are also some users who trolled Rohit for his own fitness and advised him to concentrate on it.

"I don’t know if it’s his last season. I have been hearing this for the last 2-3 years. He is fit enough. He is still playing. He will continue to play,” said Sharma in a pre-season press conference of the Mumbai-based franchise.

Will MS Dhoni continue to play next season

Dhoni has a massive fan following all over the country but in Chennai, the fans treat him as their god. He has a huge contribution to making the franchise the second-most successful team in the history of the cash-rich league. He led the team four times to the title and scored 4978 runs in 234 matches he has played so far for Chennai.

However, there were many reports that this would be his last season as he also hinted last season about it. He said that it'd be good to say goodbye to the fans by traveling to several cities in the 2023 edition. The franchise also had a bad last season as they finished in the 9th position in the points table.

They even tried to switch the captaincy role as this might be Dhoni's last season but that didn't work for them as Ravindra Jadeja failed to lead the team and the responsibility was handed back to the veteran wicketkeeper-batter. It'd be interesting to see what Dhoni will decide after the conclusion of this season.
