Bangalore and Mumbai clashed against each other in the 4th match of the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League on Monday, 06 March 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Both sides came into this fixture with contrasting results. Harmanpreet Kaur-led side thrashed Gujarat while Bangalore were brutally beaten by Delhi.

It was expected that Bangalore will provide better gameplay but that didn’t happen as they lost their second match of the season by 9 wickets. Mumbai had a flawless game, almost all their batters got runs and the bowlers rattled out Gujarat for 64.

Talking about this match, Bangalore won the toss and elected to bowl bat first. The openers Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine provided a flying start but just like the last match, their batting order collapsed again and they lost 4 wickets on the score of just 43.

Bangalore were already dealing with the disappointment which was then followed by a run-out of Ellyse Perry. However, the lower order contributed some handy runs and helped the team to achieve a respectable total of 155 runs. Hayley Matthews was the star bowler for Mumbai as she picked up 3 wickets and conceded only 28 runs in her 4 overs quota.

On the other hand, Saika Ishaque continued her brilliance after her first match and picked up 2 wickets and conceded only 26 runs in 4 overs. Amelia Kerr also got 2 wickets.

A brilliant all-round performance by Hayley Matthews

Chasing the target, Mumbai openers Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia started the innings aggressively and stitched a fiery 45-run partnership for the first wicket. After Bhatia's departure, it looked like Bangalore would make a comeback in the match but that didn't happen as Nat Sciver-Brunt joined hands with Matthews and stitched an unbeaten match-winning partnership of 114 runs.

Mathews played a sensational unbeaten 77-run knock which included 13 fours and 1 six, while Brunt smashed 55 runs off just 29 deliveries, which included 9 fours and 1 six. It was really an embarrassing performance by Bangalore's bowlers as they could take only 1 wicket in the match.
