Former India skipper MS Dhoni is one of the most celebrated cricketers in the world. He has been phenomenal throughout his career and has been one of the most successful captains in the history of the game. He has won three major tournaments for India on the international level while clinching four trophies for CSK in franchise cricket.

Amid the speculations over his retirement from the Indian Premier League, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin called Dhoni 'an adopted son of the state.' In an event, Stalin praised Dhoni and expressed his hope that the Indian stalwart will continue to play for Chennai Super Kings beyond IPL 2023. "I am also a fan of MS Dhoni. Tamil Nadu's adopted son Dhoni should continue to play in CSK," Stalin said.

Notably, the Tamil Nadu chief minister launched the Tamil Nadu Championship Foundation, which seeks to identify additional sports talent similar to MS Dhoni. Through public-private cooperation, the sports department's new project seeks to promote sports. With the contribution from the Tamil Nadu government, a total of 23.50 crore has been raised in just five days since its pre-launch on May 3.

In addition to Dhoni, ministers Udayanidhi Stalin, Thangam Tennaras, and others were present at the event. Dhoni also unveiled the Tamil Nadu Champion Foundation website. After that, CM Stalin addressed the audience. He said, “Like everyone in Tamil Nadu, I am a fan of MS Dhoni. Recently, I went to Chepauk Stadium twice to watch the IPL. The reason for that is to watch Dhoni's batting. Tamil Nadu's adopted son Dhoni should continue to play for CSK. Dhoni, the darling of Chennai, is a role model for millions of youngsters.”

“Coming from a backward family, Dhoni has become a national icon due to his hard work. We want to produce many Dhonis from Tamil Nadu in all sports, not just cricket. I am very happy to start the Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation,” the CM added. Notably, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians in their recent game and the team will look to continue their dominance in the ongoing tournament.
