Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu said goodbye to all forms of cricket after the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rayudu was regarded as one of the top Indian middle-order batters. His inclusion in the squad for the 2019 ODI World Cup was viewed as all but guaranteed. However, when the team was revealed, all cricket fans were shocked to see Vijay Shankar's name in place of Rayudu.

Meanwhile, Rayudu recently opened up on the same and claimed in a statement to a news channel that an Indian Cricket Board official had instructed him to be prepared for the ODI World Cup 2019 as early as the year 2018. Rayudu also attributed this to MSK Prasad, the former head selector of Team India, in his comments.

Rayudu said, "You are going to play the ODI World Cup or have you selected the team for the league match," in his statement over not being chosen for the ODI World Cup team. “I would not object if a player was chosen in my place who batted better than I did. However, they chose an all-rounder over me for the number 4 spot. This made me angry,” Rayudu was quoted as saying by ABP News.

Prasad was serving in his capacity as the team's chief selector when the Indian side was chosen for the 2019 ODI World Cup. When Rayudu was not chosen for the team, he uploaded a photo of some 3D glasses on Twitter, which quickly went viral.

Recently, former India head coach Anil Kumble also admitted that leaving out Rayudu after grooming him for a specific role in the World Cup was a mistake on the part of both Virat Kohli, the then-Indian captain, and Ravi Shastri.

“Rayudu should have played the 2019 World Cup. Oh yes, there’s no doubt about it. It was a huge blunder. You prepared him for that role for so long and his name just disappears from the squad. It was surprising nonetheless,” Kumble was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
