Indian cricket team has suffered multiple disappointments in major events due to the absence of their key players after they sustained injuries. Due to various injuries, players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah missed the recently concluded World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final against Australia due to which the Men in Blue suffered a 209-run loss at the Oval.

One of them, Rahul, pulled his hamstring during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, and as a result, he missed all of Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) subsequent matches in the competition. Soon after, he had thigh surgery in the UK, and for the same reason, he was unable to compete in the WTC Final. The batter is currently undergoing a thorough rehabilitation treatment at the National Cricket Academy after returning to his hometown of Bangalore.

According to some reports, the right-handed batter is considering a comeback in the Asia Cup 2023, which will take place in September. The 31-year-old has 14 international hundreds across formats and 2,642 runs in 47 Tests, 1,986 runs in 54 ODIs, and 2,265 runs in 72 T20Is.

Asia Cup 2023 schedule is yet to be revealed

With the World Cup starting on October 5, it is a vital competition for India. Rahul fills a crucial role as a wicketkeeper-batter in India's lineup because Pant is currently healing from the terrible car accident in December of last year. Relating to Rahul's return to his hometown, he tweeted about it and checked in at the NCA.

Meanwhile, nothing is official yet regarding the approval of PCB's hybrid concept for the Asia Cup. Four games are scheduled to be staged in Pakistan, while the other matches of the tournament will be played in Sri Lanka, according to reports that the ACC has accepted the plan. From September 1 to September 17, the competition will be held, and all nations, including India, will have a fantastic opportunity to test their World Cup roster there.
