In the last few years, fan fights between Pakistan and Afghanistan fans isn't something new. Four years back, during the ODI World Cup 2019, some fans from both teams had a fight. This has led to some fans from both countries dying on the spot outside the stadium. Last year, during the Asia Cup 2022, Afghanistan fans inside the Sharjah Stadium threw chairs at Pakistan fans.

In the recently concluded series, in the first two games, crowds weren't present at the venues. However, the Sri Lanka Cricket asked the fans to watch the game without purchasing the tickets. Some Sri Lankans were cheering for Pakistan while Afghan fans were present at the venue. During the third ODI, a Sri Lanka fan and an Afghani fan had a verbal fight.

Pakistan became the number-one ODI side

For the first time in their history, the Asian side has become the number-one ODI side for the second time in this year. In April, they became the number-one side after beating New Zealand in two ODIs. However, the glory stayed for long as they lost the last ODI against the Blackcaps. This led to them dropping in the rankings.

However, ahead of the Afghan series, they needed to win by 3-0 to become number one ahead of Asia Cup 2023. For the first time, the two-time winners will enter the upcoming edition being a top side.
