After bagging 15 medals on Day 8, Indian athletes continued their dominance in the Asian Games 2022. India athletes who are on the quest for 100 medals clinched three silver and four bronze medals on Day 9. Both the men's and women's skating teams created history by making their first-ever podium finish in the Asian Games.
Both the men's and women's teams clinched bronze medals in the 3000-metre team event. Meanwhile, in table tennis, the duo of Suthirtha Mukherjee and Ahikya Mukherjee went down in the semifinals after a long fight. However, they secured a bronze medal, making it first in the event. However, the Indian women's Kabaddi team had a hard time in court. They faced a tough challenge from the Chinese Taipei team and had to settle for a 34-34 draw in the group match.
Following that, the Indian men's hockey team continued their dominance in the game as they beat Bangladesh by 12-0. With this win, the team finished top in the group stage and will now fight in the semi-finals on Wednesday. Along with them in Group Stage, defending champions Japan also made it to the semifinals, beating Pakistan by 3-2 in their last group match.
Track and field continues to flourish in India
In the evening events of track and field, India had a disappointing start with the Pole Vault. In the women's event, Pavitra Venkatesh failed to make a podium finish as she registered the highest jump of 4.00 meters. Meanwhile, in the women's 3000-metre steeplechase event, Paraul Chaudhary and Preeti finished second and third, respectively, to win both the silver and bronze medals.
The last two events of the day also brought medals for India as the mixed team in the 4×400 metre relay race finished third. However, they got an upgrade in medals as the Sri Lankan team was disqualified for lane violations. In the end, Indian long jumper Ancy Sojan won the silver medal in the long jump. With this, India surpassed the 60-medal mark and is just 10 medals behind their all-time best performance.
On Day 10, India superstar Athlete Tejaswin Shreeshankar will be fighting in the men's decathlon event. After the first five events, he is leading the pack by more than 250 points. Meanwhile, the Indian men's and women's Kabaddi teams will also be in action in group-stage games. On the other hand, the Indian men's cricket team will take on Nepal in the quarterfinals. The archery team and individuals also qualified for the quarterfinals, and they will also be in action.
