Two days back India climbed to the top of the Men's ODI rankings and today they cemented their spot with a dominant victory over Australia in the second ODI. India swept the three-match series 2-0 by 99 runs at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday, September 24. The Men in Blue set their highest ODI score against Australia and their bowlers ensured their opponents would not have the last laugh.

After being asked to bat first, Ruturaj Gaikwad got India off to a flying start as the opener hit a couple of boundaries in the first over to set the tone. However, Hazlewood got him soon to give an early breakthrough for the visitors. Iyer walked out at No. 3 and he attacked the Aussie bowlers right from the start. Gill, on the other hand, took the backseat to settle down at the crease.

Gill-Iyer partnership laid the foundation for India's batting innings

As soon as the youngster found his rhythm, he teamed up with Iyer and smashed all around the park. They stitched a 200-run partnership with both notching up brilliant centuries. However, the duo quickly parted ways soon after completing the milestone and it was then captain KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav's turn to continue the onslaught. The two scored consecutive half-centuries at a rapid pace and helped India to post a mammoth total of 399-5.

Batting in reply, Australia had to play out of their skins to overcome the target but Prasidh Krishna did not allow them to get off to a strong start. The right-handed pacer picked up two wickets in the second over and piled the pressure on them right from the word go. David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne built a small partnership, but Ravichandran Ashwin claimed three quick wickets to take the game away from the visitors. Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott gave a fight back in the end, but the game was miles and miles away from their reach.
