In the 69th match of Indian Premier League 2023, Mumbai Indians face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede stadium. In the do-or-die game, MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. His decision didn't go well with the team as MI bowlers were helpless against SRH openers. In their last game of the season, SRH opener, Vivrant Sharma and Mayank Agarwal added 140 runs for the first wicket.
Sharma, in his innings, scored 69 runs off 47 balls with the help of nine boundaries and two sixes. They batted for more than 13 overs and toyed with MI's bowling. Notably, this is SRH's highest partnership for any wicket in this season but it has come too late.
After his departure, Mayank Agarwal had some fun with the bat and scored 83 runs off 46 balls with the help of eight boundaries and four sixes. Both of the batters were dismissed by young pacer Aakash Madhwal. In the end, with some cameos from Aiden Markram and Henrich Klaasen, SRH posted a massive total of 200/5 in 20 overs.
MI need to depend on rain and Gujarat Titans
Rohit Sharma and the company will need to chase this target in 11.2 overs to avoid net run rate issues for the qualification. This is a do-or-die game for them and they have to trust their biggest strength which is batting. However, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav have great numbers against SRH and would be boasted with confidence while chasing.
On the other hand, after winning this game, MI will keep a close eye on Royal Challengers Bangalore's match against Gujarat Titans. The five-time champions would expect RCB to lose this game and help them to go ahead in the league. Meanwhile, it's worth noting that there are raining cats and dogs in Bengaluru and the match could be forfeited due to it.
Here is how fans react to SRH's opening partnership:
