'Bahot khushi hui' - Fans react as Rohit Sharma smashes spectacular hundred against Australia in Nagpur Test

Indian captain Rohit Sharma smashed his first hundred as captain and overall ninth Test century on Friday against Australia in the first Test of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. By scoring a century in Nagpur Test, Rohit  Sharma also became the first Indian captain to score a century in all formats of the game. 

Rohit Sharma, in his magnificent innings, scored an unbeaten 105 runs off 181 balls with the help of 14 fours and two sixes. Rohit’s knock helped India to score 192/5 in 69 overs. He along with KL Rahul gave India a solid start as both added 77 runs for the first wicket. India, on day 2, lost Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Suryakumar Yadav before the tea break.  Ravichandran Ashwin also failed to convert a solid start into a big knock. 

The Mumbai batter has smashed his second consecutive international century. On January 24, in his last outing for India, Rohit Sharma hammered Kiwis to score his 30th one-day International century. India, with the help of the captain’s innings, has managed to take a crucial lead against the Aussies, who failed to utilize the benefits of batting first. 

India outplayed Australia on Day-1 

Injury-hit Australia was outplayed by hosts on day 1 as visitors failed to score big while batting first. After winning the toss, Pat Cummins opted to bat first. However, Australian batters failed to score against the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Jadeja, who was making a comeback in international cricket after five months, destroyed the Australian middle order. He took five wickets, including the wickets of Marnus Labuschange and Steven Smith. Ashwin took three wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami took one wicket each.
