Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan has helped his side put up a fighting total in the ongoing game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the 14th game of the IPL 2023, the home team, SRH won the toss and elected to bowl first. Dhawan, who is looking to make his comeback in the Indian team, batted extremely well.

On the other hand, the other batters failed to apply themselves on a wicket that was aiding swing bowling. The Kings had a poor start as they lost three wickets for 22 runs. Dhawan and Sam Curran put together 41 runs and looked like taking the game forward for the team. However, the latter got out trying to take on Mayank Markande.

This led to a collapse as the team was reduced from 63/4 to 88/9 in no time. The impact player for PBKS, Sikandar Raza couldn't do much either. Meanwhile, when it looked like the innings will be folded for a low score, Dhawan ensured that the game was on. Yash Rathee, applied himself in his two ball innings as the 2013 Champions Trophy winner decided to farm the strike.

In the last over, the left-hander scored eight runs although he couldn't score his third IPL hundred. Meanwhile, his innings have given his bowlers something to play with.

It's the best innings I have played: Shikhar Dhawan

After the first innings, the 2016 IPL winner spoke to the broadcasters. He started by mentioning that the SRH fans remember him and this was his best innings of his career. He added that 143 is a fighting total.

I'm glad that the Hyderabad crowd remembers me. It's one of the best I've played. It's good because I played to the end and from the other ends wickets are falling. We made a respectable total and now we can fight for that," Shikhar Dhawan said in the mid-game
