The much-awaited clash between former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane finally took place in the main event of UFC 285 on Sunday, 05 March 2023. This was Jones’ first-ever fight in the heavyweight category and the legendary made a comeback after a 3-year gap into the UFC octagon.

However, many fans expected a thrilling fight between the two heavyweights but that didn’t happen as Jones made Gane submit in just a few minutes in the very first round. Meanwhile, after winning the heavyweight championship, Jones talked about his journey in UFC and how he used to talk about god but people got to know about his real life.

“You know, when I first got into the UFC, I would talk about God a lot and wanting to be a good person. And then people got to see that my life wasn’t perfect. That I made mistakes, that I sin and that I fall down. And I think for a long time people looked at me as just an incredibly fake individual. And I think, as of right now, people could just see that I’m a human. That I do love God, but I’m a human. And Christians aren’t perfect.”

Either you absolutely hate me or you just learning to understand me: Jon Jones

However, Jones mentioned that his sins made him more relatable to the fans as some started either to hate him or tried to understand him. Meanwhile, it is now expected that former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic might clash with Jones for the championship. Earlier, it was reported that Jones will be fighting with Francis Ngannou but that didn’t happen as Ngannou left UFC.

“I just think I’m more relatable to people than I’ve ever been. And despite how many times I mess up, I do try to stand for good. And something that’s bigger than me. And I just think there’s a relatability that I have with people. Either you absolutely hate me or you just learning to understand the man that I am.”
