Australia's star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the South Africa white-ball series due to an ankle injury. His injury came ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. With a few months away from the mega event it will be a big concern for the Aussies.

He has been replaced by Mathew Wade. Although Maxwell’s injury is not very serious, the decision to rest him has been taken as a precautionary measure in view of the much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 in India. He was already scheduled to depart from the tour soon after the conclusion of the T20I series for the birth of his first child.

As a result, Maxwell has been ruled out of the three-match T20 series: Tony Dodemaide

Tony Dodemaide the selector for the Australian men's national team, "Following scans, and on medical advice, it was determined to take a conservative approach," the team said in a news release. "As a result, Maxwell has been ruled out of the three-match T20 series."

Dodemaide said Maxwell's injury would be monitored ahead of the three one-day internationals in India next month. He further added about the replacement for the 34-year-old batter, "Wadey is a world-class performer and is fit and ready to go."

"We do fully expect that will come back into this T20 squad for that Indian series post the World Cup," Bailey said. "This was a great opportunity to give Josh, who's been on an enormous amount of tours across a number of formats and hasn't really had much playing-time opportunity. "Alex Carey is obviously the wicketkeeper in , but just making sure that if Josh does get an opportunity through an injury to Alex, that he's ready to go and he's got some game time under his belt."

In the case that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter is injured, it will create space and opportunities in the middle order for Ashton Turner and uncapped all-rounder Aaron Hardie. He is also a replacement for their star batter Steve Smith who was earlier ruled out for a wrist injury. The T20I series gets underway in Durban on Wednesday.
