England pacer Stuart Broad has written a column in The Daily Mail. In this, he revealed that his wife's favorite cricketer is Chris Woakes. The latter made his comeback in the longest format in the third game of the ongoing Ashes 2023. He bowled well and contributed with the bat, including the winning runs he scored to win the first game of the series after losing the first two.
On the other hand, Broad, who played three consecutive Tests in the series, picked up his bunny, David Warner. This week, both teams will play in Manchester for the fourth Test on July 19. England, the home team would look to keep the series alive while Australia would look to win an Ashes series in England after 2001.
I am her second favorite cricketer: Stuart Broad
In the column, apart from revealing his wife's favorite cricketer being Woakes, the former added that he is his better half's second favorite player.
Broad’s piece included a candid anecdote: “Woakesy’s an amazing cricketer. My wife, told me he was her favourite player, to which I replied: ‘What about me?’ She said: ‘You’re second.’ Thanks very much.”
This light-hearted confession illustrates Broad’s good-natured camaraderie with Woakes. He expressed his admiration for Woakes by saying, “The biggest compliment I can pay him is that he’s helped us win two World Cup finals, but last week at Headingley was the most important all-round contribution he has ever made.”
Chris Woakes played a role in England's maiden ODI World Cup win in 2019. Three years later, he helped his side end the T20 World Cup drought after 2010. He is surely meant to play in the upcoming fourth game of the Ashes 2023. On the other hand, it will be interesting whether Broad plays the next game. He might be rested and James Anderson might make a comeback at his home ground.
