A few weeks after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023's blockbuster match between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli captured viewers' attention, Gautam Gambhir, a former cricketer for India, has spoken out about his connection with the erstwhile Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After Bangalore's victory over KL Rahul and Company in the 16th season of the lucrative league last month, former RCB captain Kohli and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) coach Gambhir got into a heated argument.
Gambhir and Kohli, teammates in India's 2011 World Cup-winning campaign, added another chapter to their ferocious IPL rivalry when they went at it after RCB outclassed hosts LSG in match No. 43 of the IPL 2023. Kohli and Gambhir also had an unpleasant confrontation when the latter was the face of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise in the IPL 2013.
‘If there is an argument between us, it stays only on the field’ – Gautam Gambhir on MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli
For the first time, LSG coach Gambhir shared his thoughts on his verbal altercation with Kohli and made it clear that there was no personal animosity between them. Gambhir also made a striking reference to the late cricket legend MS Dhoni to downplay the altercation. “My relationship with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli is the same. If there is an argument between us, it stays only on the field, not off field. There’s nothing personal. They want to win as much as I do,” Gambhir said in an interview with News 18.
Before engaging in an acrimonious argument with Kyle Mayers, Kohli also engaged in a heated conversation with LSG bowler Naveen-ul-Haq. Gambhir was seen storming towards Kohli after the two had shaken hands, confronting the RCB superstar for his post-match antics. As a result of their violations of Article 2.21 of the IPL code of conduct at the time, former RCB captain Kohli and LSG coach Gambhir were each fined 100% of their match money.
"Look, I have had many fights on cricket fields. It's not like I never fought. I have always ensured to let those fights and arguments stay at the cricket field only. The argument was between two people and it should stay within the cricket field and not outside it. A lot of people said many things. A lot of people demanded an interview for TRPs like they asked me to clarify. The thing that has happened between two people doesn't need to be clarified," Gambhir explained.

Ipl has only done bad things for indian cricket. Started rift between our player's, our people turned in to different hate each other, and overseas player's started to learn how to play against us and in our conditions

my relationship with Mufa and jonas are the same. If there is an argument between us, it stays only on the twitter , not off twitter . There's nothing personal. They want to tweet as much as I do.
