The star Indian badminton pair Satwik Reddy and Chirag Shetty won the Korean Open 2023. In a marathon final, they beat the world's No. 1 Indonesian pair. In a thrilling summit showdown of the Super 500 badminton competition, the world No. 3 Indian pair rallied to a 17-21, 21-13, and 21-14 win over the two-time world championship bronze medalists Fajar Alfian and Muhamad Rian Ardianto.

The Indians appeared a bit nervous in the beginning as they trailed in the first game, but they rallied in the second half, reducing a 10-point deficit with a six-point surge before falling short. However, they gained momentum in the second game and controlled the rest of the game to come out on top. This is their third Super 500 title, following the Thailand Open 2019 and Yonex Sunrise India Open 2022, as well as their third BWF World Tour title in 2023, having previously won the Swiss Open 2023 (Super 300) and the Indonesia Open 2023 (Super 1000) earlier this year.

Satwik-Chirag had a 2-2 head-to-head record against Alfian-Ardianto going into the final, although they have won the last two times, including in the quarterfinals in Indonesia, during their title run. The Indonesians play a fast, flat game, but the Indian attack has been unbeatable in recent months. They are now up 3-2 over World No. 1.

Satwik-Chirag scripted one of the best comebacks of the game

The Indonesian duo got off to a fast start, racing out to a big seven-point lead at the mid-game break, 11-4. They took advantage of the Indians' unforced errors, while also landing booming smashes. Satwik-Chirag worked hard after the break to mount a comeback, scoring six points in a row, including an astonishing rally at 19-14. They preserved a game point, but Alfian and Ardianto finally won the game 21-17. Satwik-Chirag had never lost a game in the competition before.

Unlike the first game, the second one began evenly, with Satwik-Chirag retaining a slim lead and leading by three points at the mid-game break. Satwiksairaj and Chirag both continuously found victories, preventing their opponents from breaking the momentum. Satwik-Chirag easily won the second game 21-13 to send the contest to a deciding game.
