Those days are gone when saliva was used by bowlers to shine the ball. After the Corona pandemic, the apex cricket body completely banned it last year. The ban means that bowlers can no longer use saliva to swing or shine the ball. However, this rule was flouted in the 15th match played between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023.

LSG’s veteran spinner Amit Mishra was seen using saliva on the ball during the match. A picture of Mishra is now going viral on social media. During LSG's first innings, Mishra was caught on camera using saliva to shine the ball on the first ball of the 12th over.

He was bowling to RCB batter Virat Kohli. However, only two balls after this, Mishra got Kohli out. Kohli was caught by Marcus Stoinis. He contributed 61 runs off 44 balls. However, if this act of Mishra continues in the future, then he may be banned.

This is the second time Amit Mishra used Saliva in IPL

The apex cricket body banned the use of saliva as soon as the corona started and IPL was also included in this. Even in IPL 2020, Kohli was caught unknowingly applying saliva on the ball after stopping short at short cover.

This is not the first time that Mishra has been seen using saliva on the ball. In IPL 2021, while playing for Delhi Capitals, he accidentally applied saliva on the ball before bowling the first ball. After this, on-field umpire Virender Sharma also warned Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant.

LSG paid 50 lakhs for Mishra at the IPL 2023 Auction. His expertise will be beneficial to KL Rahul and the company, and it might be the key factor in LSG buying him. Mishra has taken 168 wickets in 155 IPL games, with four four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul. Moreover, he ranks fourth on the list of IPL history's all-time wicket-takers.
