Sunil Chhetri, the captain of the Indian football team, and his wife Sonam Bhattacharya welcomed a son on Thursday, August 31, in Bengaluru. Both Sonam and the newborn are healthy, according to information from both Sonam's family and hospital sources. Notably, there were worries when Sonam Bhattacharya received a dengue diagnosis while she was pregnant.
When Sunil Chhetri celebrated his goal in the Intercontinental Cup in June, he made the pregnancy announcement. After scoring the goal against Vanuatu, he snatched the ball and hid it under his shirt while he celebrated. Sonam was actually there, and Chhetri motioned for her to come over to where she was standing.
"Me and my wife are expecting a baby, this is how she wanted me to announce - it’s for her and the baby. I just hope we got all the blessings and wishes,” the legendary India footballer told in the match conference after the match.
Chhetri as well as Sonam were married in 2017 after spending a lot of time getting to know one another. Sonam Bhattacharya, the famous footballer Subrata Bhattacharya's daughter. With his recent performances in 2023, Indian football prodigy Sunil Chhetri has been on fire. Chhetri has often shown why he is regarded as one of the top players in international football. Chettri will be missing King’s Cup
Igor Stimac, the Indian coach, has announced that Chhetri will not compete in the King's Cup in Thailand in September due to the birth of his child. Later in the month, when India competes in the Asian Games, he is anticipated to return.
The India will compete against some of Asia's top teams at the King's Cup 2023, which is slated to take place in Thailand. For the Indian team, the competition would be a crucial training ground before the AFC Asian Cup in 2023.
